I get this question so often that I thought it would be prudent to write a short post about exactly what the process is like for those who may be a little nervous about their first audiology appointment.

""

1. The first step is to call and make an appointment.

Some clinics do have walk-in hours, but in order to make sure each person gets the dedicated time they deserve, making an appointment is always the best option. It gives you a chance to get your questions answered about your specific situation and goals.

2. Paperwork and insurance are always a part of medical appointments

In our office, we try as much as possible to minimize the hassle for patients. We have trained office staff who have worked in hearing healthcare for over four years available to answer your questions about insurance, do insurance checks, and request prior authorizations. Insurance can be a thorny maze, which is why we’ve invested in people who know all the ins and outs and will drill down to find the answers you need. We can check your insurance benefits before you come in so there are no surprises.

3. Once you’re in the exam room there will be a series of tests.

We do comprehensive audiometry which means we test your hearing, the movement of your tympanic membrane (ear drums) and alert you if there are any major red flags with your hearing like an asymmetrical (uneven) hearing loss, which can be an indicator of more serious issues. We go over all the test results with you and make sure you understand the whole picture of your hearing health. We can also send along your test results to your primary care physician.

4. If you are a candidate to wear hearing devices, we offer all major brands and types of hearing aids.

As an independent office, we’re able to carry a much wider range of devices than most other clinics. That means we have more flexibility to fit your individual needs and lifestyle. You get to select which devices you’d like to test drive for two weeks. A fitting appointment is scheduled to pick up the devices and you get to go test them out and make sure they are the right fit for you before making any kind of commitment.

5. If you like the way your devices sound and want to keep them, fantastic!

If you’re not too thrilled and would like to bring them back or have adjustments, we can do that as well. We are in the business of helping people achieve better hearing through the latest technologies in a way that works for them.
