Any condition\nwhose symptoms make you feel dizzy or unsteady is characterized as a balance\ndisorder. These disorders cause a person to feel as if they are moving,\nspinning or floating when they are standing, lying or sitting still. While\nwalking, it is common for people to feel as if they are tipping over.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Common Balance Disorders<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

There are a\nnumber of balance disorders. The most common ones include<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Labyrinthitis<\/strong>. This condition is an inflammation of\nthe inner ear usually caused by an infection. Its symptoms include vertigo,\ntemporary hearing loss and tinnitus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Benign\nParoxysmal Positional Vertigo<\/strong> (BPPV). This disorder involves brief but intense periods of vertigo\nthat are triggered by specific changes in head position. It occurs when tiny\ncrystals in the otolith organs become dislodged and migrate to the semicircular\ncanals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Meniere\u2019s\ndisease. <\/strong>This disease\nis a chronic condition that causes vertigo, tinnitus, fullness in the ear and\nfluctuating hearing loss that may eventually become permanent. Meniere\u2019s is\nusually confined to one ear and though its cause is unknown it may be the\nresult of abnormal fluid buildup in the inner ear.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
